Come Join Us!

The Litchfield Prevention Council is dedicated to the health and wellness of all our citizens, especially the youth of our community. We promote healthy behaviors and educate against behaviors that threaten our collective health and well-being.

We partner with organizations that share our mission, most notably the Western Connecticut Coalition of Prevention Councils, WAMOGO Prevention Council, Litchfield Health and Wellness, Greenwoods Counseling & Referrals, McCall Behavior Health Network, and Regional School District 20.

We have offered programs on Internet Safety with State Trooper Scott Driscoll, Natural Highs with psychologist and comedian Matt Bellace, and the Choose Love Movement with Sandy Hook parent Scarlett Lewis.

We also supported and participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Connecticut Chapter Suicide Prevention walk at White Memorial in October.

Most of our programs are offered to students during the day and parents in the evening. We work closely with the school administration to offer educational programs that meet the needs of our children, providing them with information that will encourage positive choices.

Currently, we are working with the Region 20 school district to conduct a Developmental Survey during the 2024/25 academic year. It will measure student attitudes and behaviors, giving us vital information to help target our programs.

We have worked with our WAMOGO and the Litchfield PTO partners to co-sponsor the Free Hugs Project for all grades 6-12 Region 20 students that featured inspirational speaker Ken Nwadike Jr., and partnered with the Litchfield Historical Society to offer NARCAN training to community non-profits last spring.

Much work is being done, yet more is needed. We could use your help. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Bantam Annex, usually with Zoom accessibility. Our agendas are posted on the Town of Litchfield’s website. Input is always welcomed. You can contact us at the address below or via the contact form on our website, www.litchfieldprevention.org.

We hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Gary Waugh, Jill Johnson, Matt Dyer, Jackie Tiul, Priscilla Jeffery, Maria Ziello, and Kerry Burns, members of the Litchfield Prevention Council
